Restoration

Members engage to a variable degree in the restoration and conversion, primarily of gunto, into civilian-style cutting swords. This includes making new saya, fabricating habaki and handles, handle wrapping , straightening, sharpening and polishing.   No one perports to be a professional and the work is not appropriate for collectors but it is generally attractive and perfectly adaquate for a non-traditionally made sword engaged in cutting activities. Several such swords are usually available for sale.  Specialized swords for cutting designed and made by Mitsuo Hataya may also be ordered through the Iai Kai. Inquiries may e-mail sword@battodo.net.
